HOW TO VIEW THE WORLD IN VIRTUAL REALITY

To view the 3D world your browser must be VRML compliant (Web3D's Virtual Reality Modeling Language).

Download and install one of the following plugins.

  • Bitmanagement Software GmbH's Contact - Multi-user capable. Web City is optimized for this viewer. Recommended.

  • Blaxxun's Contact - A previous version of Contact.

  • Cosmo Player - One of the first popular VRML viewers. Still available for download. Single user.

  • More viewers can be found at Web3D.org and at the Open Directory Project, but Web City has not been optimized for their use.

POINTERS TO HELP IMPROVE YOUR EXPERIENCE

- Windows XP may require that you specifically allow scripts to run when attempting to load the world. When the plugin is blocked from showing content, a warning bar appears near the top of the browser. Right click and select "Allow blocked content..." then select "Yes" to confirm.

- Renderer preferences like OpenGL and DirectX can play a role in the look and performance of the world on your computer. Right click Settings, select Preferences, Performance Options in Contact.

- Toggle the Windows hardware acceleration setting on your machine to experiment for best performance. See Microsoft's article 263391 on how to do this for your specific platform.

- Some older versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer may cause the following error message to appear when attempting to open a new window using Javascript: "Error: No such interface supported" If you have this problem look here for a solution from Microsoft.
